If you had a 95 coupe and you HAD to but a set of shortys because someone ripped yours off and there were no more stock ones left in the world, what would you get. I want a direct replacement, something that won't make spark plus access any worse than it is. Which one is the best choice?Any ideas for me? Thanks alot. Ben.
I would take it as a sign that I needed a set of long tubes. If for some strange reason long tubes weren't an option...I would probably go with a set from Ligenfelter.
If you are absolutly set on replacing them with shortys, then put a set of JBA's on. They are a direct bolt on and installation is easy compared to a lot of others. However, they are pricey and be sure to get the ceramic coated ones to keep the heat down. BTW, the spark plugs are much easier to access with them installed.
Re: Another lt1 shorty header question!! (STL94LT1)
I'm just finishing up my installation of the Hooker Shorties. The first set I got were warped and had to be exchanged. It took an additional week of my time, no big deal as I am doing other upgrades as well. The second set fit perfectly. I bought them from Jet-Hot http://www.jet-hot.com Their coating is just beautiful and the price is below Eckler's coated Hookers. Why did I go with shorties? I wanted to keep the cats and (for now) the stock exhaust. Now I'm set up for a bolt-on cat back system requiring no fabrication. No, I'm not the fastest Vette on the forum, but it is better than stock. Besides my old iron headers were rusty and they held heat way to long under the hood. In short, I'm pleased with my Hookers and would do it again. :yesnod:
One thing I'd do if I were you and you select Hookers, buy some 1" stainless socket head bolts to use as your header bolts. The ARP's are 3/4" and the Hooker flange is thick. I wanted a little more thread into the aluminum head. The socket head bolt allows for easy torquing. Requires a 5/16 allen wrench. I feel secure, now :yesnod:

I used 1" bolts on my iron headed LT1 and they bottomed out in the hole instead of torquing the gaskets tight. I didn't notice for a few years, I couldn't figure out why a few header bolts always dropped out. Finally figured it out and switched to 3/4", no problems three years later. Just a note because I find under the hood it's hard to notice sutle points like this.
Re: Another lt1 shorty header question!! (silver & red CE)
Hey silver & red CE,
I measured the depth of the threaded hole in the head and it was deep enough to accomodate a 1 1/4 bolt. I also used a bottom thread cleaner before using them. I ran a 1 1/4 bolt to see if it would bottom. It was close and that's why I went with 1" bolts. I'm also using the copper exhaust gaskets. How thick is your cast iron flange? My Hookers are just over 3/8" thick add the gasket and that doesn't give very much left to the 3/4" bolt. But if yours works, who am I to argue the point. :)
I do like the socket heads anyway :yesnod: :yesnod:
