Default 94-96 owners please check in

On my way in to work this morning I was flying down a back road when I came across a polo green vette. I was gonna wave but it turns out the car was for sale. I stopped and took a quick look. It was kinda dirty and had a few small things wrong with it but it didn't look like anything too major. In any case the sign said it was a 94. I completely forgot to look at the gills to verify.

The question I had was about the instrument cluster. In what year did they switch to white lettering? This car had white, which I thought started in 95. I could very easily be wrong. Without remembering the gills I don't know for sure if it's a 94 or 95. Is it really a 94 with white gauges (meaning the very possible chance that I was mistaken) or is it a 95 and the owner doesn't have clue?

I am almost certain the white lettering started in 94, and the gills should be the flat style of the 91-93's.

I think the seats also changed style for the last time in 94.

Too bad you did not check the year code on the VIN- that would have cleared things up for you.

1994 was the first year for the white lettering and amber gauge cluster at night. This was done along with several other revision due to the need for a passenger side airbag. Some include:
Change in lettering color in inst. panel
rear window on converts
passenger side airbag (removal of glove box)
sequential fuel injection

Thats is all I can think of for the time being.

Oh and I forgot the 4 flat gills on the side is 92-94 and the 1 large slot with little flares coming out of it (don't know how to describe it) is 95-96.

Cool, thanks guys. I called and got some info about the car. It's got 58000 miles on it and he only wants $9200 for it. Either something is seriously wrong or it's the deal of the century.

I told one of my friends about it. He's seriously thinking about going over there and seeing about a test drive. Won't hurt anything to find out some more info. I told him to bring it by work if he can test drive it so I can see if everything is on the up and up.
