Default Coolant Flush

What is the easiest way to do it. Please don't just say the drain plug.

Thanks,
Raul

It is a lot easier on the L98 than the LT1. Which are you talking about. I just did the LT1 and by just draining the radiator I only got 5 quarts (out of 14) out so I filled it ran it and drained it again. On the L98 if you park it with the back up high most of the anti-freeze will drain out but that does nothing on the LT1 because of the way the hoses are routed. Easiest way on the LT1 would be to take the botton rad. hose off and drain it that way. I don't like the idea of taking out the knock sensors but a lot of people drain it that way. You will need to bleed the 2 bleeder valves though on my 95 I could only find the bleeder on my thermostat housing. As someone here suggested I made a tin foil dam so the anti-freeze would not get on my Opti-spark. I also found that I could get more anti-freeze into the system (and less air into it too) if afterfilling the high holding tank I ran the engine up to 2000 rpm, you can see the level go down. If you let up on the rpm it starts to back-up and overflow. Once you rev it up and fill it you have to be quick and put the cap on fast.
Since the LT1 anti-freeze goes directly into the head some people (and I agree) said you should NOT flush it by putting a hose into the rad cap area as the cold water on the hot head can cause thermalshock and damage
Also do 3 cycles of going from 195 to 80 degrees to help get trapped air out. Look at some of yesterdays posts on this subject. And use distilled water.

Here is how I flushed my 89: Drain the radiator. Remove the knock sensor and this drains one side of the block. Remove the hose that goes to the base of the oil filter and this drains the other side of the block. I used NAPA flush and followed the directions. You must open the same three points to remove the flush. You can avoid the "packing of the coolant" by drilling two holes in the thermostat using a 1/16 inch drill bit. This allows the air to escape and you do not have to do the hot/cold thing!

Does anyone have a picture of their drill wholes in the thermostat? I was planning on doing this when I flush my coolant, but I'm not sure where to drill.

Thanks.
