My 87's temperature gauge is maxing out at 299 but the engine is not overheating. I found a technical service bulletin # 87162 from June 87 that reads: temperature gauge false indicated overheat condition. It did not give a solution to the problem, someone please help I've tried everything.
Test M- coolant temp indicates high temps continously.
Disconnect the coolant temp sender connector and turn ign switch to run. r/h side of eng near starter solenoid. Its a single wire.
If the collant temp display indicates lo, replace the coolant temp sender.
If the coolant temp display does not indicate lo, check the dark green (35) wire for a short to ground. If the (35) wire is ok, replace the inst cluster.
Its pretty simple to check, and most likely the temp sender is bad.
Good luck.
