Can anyone shed some light on how to release the hand brake automatic adjuster. I can see how to release the pawl but can not figure out where to place the drift pin to hold it released. I've read the GM manual, haynes, and the recent tech article in Corvette Fever. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Car is a 1994. I'm relacing the rear calipers. Thanks Dan :banghead:
Disabling Parking Brake Automatic Adjuster...
1. Remove driver's seat cushion.
2. Remove parking brake lever cover and screws.
3. Using fabricated wire, or a offset screwdriver, hold drive pawl so that it is disgengaged from drive sector.
4. Insert a nail, or drift, through the hole in the anchor plate to retain the drive pawl in the disengaged position.
5. Move the parking brake lever until it aligns with the lock pawl.
6. Depress button lever and move lever to down position.
7. Visually inspect to see that anchor plate is against the stud on the parking brake lever.
8. Parking brake front cable can now
be pulled to the rear to gain the slack necessary to perform parking brake maintenance.

I can email you a pic, if necessary.
Good luck!
( If the '94 is different from the '93, all bets are off )
There is a hole on the anchor plate (the metal thing that holds all the guts of the unit). The hole is on the right side (if you are looking towards the front of the car.) I used a small drill bit but I never could get it disengaged. I'd be courious if you get lucky and get it to disengage. Maybe you could send me a IM ???
Thanks
Thanks oldman and ittlfly. I've got the 94 GM manual and read it many times. Do appreciate the offer. I'll try to find the drift hole as you two have described. I just ordered new rear calipers so i won't be back on the brakes for 7-14 days. I can't believe how hard rears are to find. Thanks again. When I get the handbrake deal resolved, I'll post the process. thanks Dan
