Clutch Friction Point

I'm still fighting a problem with grinding while going into reverse. Following the test as described in the manual, I push in the clutch all the way to the floor at idle and count 9 seconds and engage reverse. Most of the time it will grind even with first selecting a forward gear. In the morning, there is no problem! I have to drive about 20 minutes in city traffic to get to where it will not want to go into reverse without grinding. Going into first is occasionally difficult, but when the car is moving, I have no problem shifting up or down.
The clutch is a Centerforce 1 and is about 4 years old. I know the prior owner and the car was never abused.
Ideas??
