Default Need help with engine mods!!!

Keeping in mind that I will have a 383 in a couple of years (after I get out of college). I would like to get some more power out of my car, you know the power that spins the tires when the car shifts. I have been thinking and debating on what I should get and what I should do first. I am now asking for your guys knowledge and experience to help me get a gameplan and someplace to start. I have an 87 with chambered exhaust, open lid, removed screens, and an SR base manifold (not yet installed). The bad news is I have to pass emisions,

I would stick with bolt ons that will swap right over to the 383 later on-which means intake and exhaust mods. The base is a good start-get a SR also and you'll notice a diff. The SR base and plenum is also smog legal. Then a hi flow cat.
If you don't mind getting into the engine then a cam swap(etc, etc) would about do it untill you go for the 383. And then the big question....what's the budget??!!

I don't know how the emission testing works in your area, but if you can use longtube headers I would go for that next. Just get some with the air tube hookups and keep your main cat.

Yeah I was thinking when I put in a cam I'll put in some roller rockers and lifters. Any suggestions on a decent cam that wont break the budget?

Since you are going to be doing the 383 in a few years, you'll probably be redoing alot of the engine components. You might want to try a new set of gears in your rear end.

Heres what i'm going to do, however SC has no emissions right now.

383, SR, Accel 219 cam, AFR 190 heads with 1.6rr, hooker 2151 ceramic-coated and a Random Tech cat. All that can be made smog legal, but it depends on the exhaust and the tuning.

If you keep the main cat, and just get a Random Tech hi-flow, you could still pass emissions with the right tuning, and just return the car to the 'better' tuning by switching out a chip. If you keep the precats and the main cat, you would be very likely to still pass emissions.
