Default weather stripping maintenance

I just replaced all the weatherstripping on my 90 vette and would like to know if there is anything I can do or anything I can apply to it on a regular basis to help it last a little longer, as I dont wish to spend the money again anytime soon for replacement. I was thinking about such products as Armour-All but have heard somewhere that these products actually decrease the life of whatever they are applied to (didnt know that, but the writeup I read was extensive and quite convincing). Anyway, does anyone have any ideas you wish to share that may extend the life of the weaterstripping? Thanks in advance. :)

You can spend the $10 a tube for the "weatherstriping" name product OR use diaelectric grease. (same stuff you put into the spark plug boots to keep moisture out). Put a light coat on, rub in well and use a cloth to wipe off any excess. Once every 6 months does the trick.

:iagree: I got the 3 Silicon Grease tubes offered in MAD. Its been a couple of months since I put it on and it still has a rich semigloss black look to it and thats on a daily driver. :chevy

Go to the $1 store and get a can of petrolium jelly. Works on keeping the moisture out and seals from drying out. The best part is that it's cheap. :seeya :steering:

Dielectric grease does work, but it's . . . well . . . greasy  GM has an excellent Silicone Emulsion (P/N 10953014) that's made specifically for maintaining weatherstripping and other rubber trim. Applies easily, soaks in in about 15-20 minutes, leaves no visible residue, and makes the rubber soft and pliable. Around $5 for a 2oz. bottle (enough to do one car).

All these answers are good! I chose a silicone based product. Did not totally soak in  My windows had a slight film where the weatherstipping touched the glass. I like the GM 2 oz tube Idea.
