The rack & Pinion in my 96 seems to be making a banging noise or clunking noise. I pretty much pinpointed it to the rack itself. when I turn the wheel back and forth when parked I can hear it. It still drives tight and fine. Is this something to be concerned about? or drive it till it fails?
Any "morning sickness?" (when it's cold is it hard to turn). This is the leading symtom of a rack & pin going south. If not, how about getting under it and see if anything is loose?
DON"T DRIVE IT TIL IT FAILS! These C-4s are too
no morning sickness at all. just a banging-clunking noise when I turn the wheel back and forth.
I can't seem to pinpoint it, that's why I think it is the rack itself....
anyone experience this??
thx
I have the same sound but it's not a loud bang or clunk..it sounds like it would be a tierod but mine are ok. It only does it when the engine is off but as soon as you start it and fluid flows through p/s system it's gone. mine is a 94
I guess you could even have a bad balljoint or hub and you just hear it when you turn the wheel. Anything hooked to the rack could transfer noise when you turn. I always find if I wait until it breaks it is easy to find the problem. :cry
