Does anyone know what the Sturmiarcher gear ratio is for a 1992 and a-half coupe is supposed to be? I checked mine and each time I checked it, it comes to 132:1. Do you think that this might account for my low fuel mileage? If not that, could it account for why my wife always changes the channel on the stereo ~ regardless of what channel I have it set on? :lolg:

By the way ~ does anyone own a Sturmiarcher gear puller I could borrow? If not ~ does anyone own a calibrator? :steering:

could you mean stoichiametric ratio?

i believe al the efi engines target 14.X:1 at cruise. less under power

I have a Sturmy-Archer 3 speed gear box, on my 1958 Schwinn "Racer". It's 0.66:1, 1:1 and 1.5:1, you know those sun/planetary gear system. I also have a 4 speed hub with aluminum shell :D

So Eric.... seeing as how my Corvette wasn't made in 1958 ~ and even if it was, it wouldn't have been made by Schwinn..... does that mean that my Sturmy Archer gear box doesn't exist? :confused:

Sturmy Archer is a British Company, not owned by Schwinn, lot's of old 3 speed bikes have them. Oh, yea, don't forget they also made gearboxes for the likes of MG and Triumph...just another reason to get a Vette ;)

Well ~ Ya learn something new every day. I actually thought that Schwinn made the gearbox. I don't know why Sturmy Archer popped into my head today. Can't be Alzheimers ~ it doesn't work that way....... Just Old Age I guess!

Ha! Thanks for playing along guys. I was wondering if any other Old Farts out there might have a clue as to what I was talking about. Might have helped if I would have spelled it correctly in the title.

Old fart!??!?! I'm only 42, but I worked as a bicycle repairman from freshman year in high school (1975) until jr year of college (1982). Back in those days a good bicycle mechanic could overhaul a Sturmy 3-speed hub. Just because I'm a nutjob, over the years I have collected all sorts of Sturmy Archer hubs, drum brake with 3 speed, generator hubs, 4 and 5 speed versions. I have a selection of Bendix two speed kickback hubs too. I can't toss this stuff out, but it's not worth much. Anyther 40 years, I'll be dead and my kids can toss it out :)

I think you just need to adjust the bellcrank and clean up the flactoid valve. That will really increase your gas mileage.

Yeah Nathan ~ but the question remains...... Does this in some way account for why every time my wife gets in the Vette it seems I have the stereo on the wrong channel and she feels the need to change it? :lol:
