B&B exhaust ?
I've searched the archives, but found no mention of the B&B exhaust.
Does anyone have any experience, even anecdotal, with this nice-looking system?
I've had the Corvette for three months, methinks it's time to start the modifications.........
Don't believe everything you hear. It's true, there is some resonation... but it's all below 2000 rpm's, and I don't know too many people that drive with the rpm's under 2000. Sixth gear may be a problem (if it's a manual). I certainly don't have any problems holding a conversation in mine and it is pretty loud.
I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything else...
I've had my 3" B&B system on my roadster for about 3 years now. The material is very high quality and the mufflers are still nice and shiny. With the top down, you do hear the nice low throaty tone from the exhaust. With the top up, there is resonance between 1300 and 1600 RPM. This is about 55-65MPH with my car. At speeds above 70, the resonance is all but gone.
I have noticed that after extended freeway driving (a few hours or so( the resonance drops dramatically. Hopefully, it's not my ears!!
The B&B system is more costly than some of the other systems like Corsa or Flowmasters, but The sound is much better IMHO. From what I have read, the current systems are 2 3/4" pipe and that has helped to reduce the resonance, but I don't know what effect that had on performance gains or the exhaust sound.
I did have to do some cutting on one pipe to get the system to fit correctly, but I believe this was a problem with some of the early systems and has since been rectified at their plant. Other than the little extra time cutting and fitting, the entire system only took about an hour to install from the time we raised the hoist to out the door. T
The supplied strap-type clamps are not the best to use for clamping the pipes together as the pipe material is very thick. I used regular muffler clamps to crimp the pipe and then tack welded the joints once I found a shop that could do stainless welding.
If you have an automatic with 2.59 gear, it produces painfully loud resonance. The sound at full throttle and above 2200+rpms is better than the Corsa. Very exotic sounding exhaust. I took off the B&B and went with the Corsa. If you go with a 3.73 gear, I don't think you will have a resonance problem with the B&B.
I have the dual header back 3" B& B tri-flow on my 88. It contains a "resonator" that also appears as though it's a catalytic. I love it!!! It doesn't resonate excessively in my car. The stainless steel finish is awesome. It can be re-polished over and over. It's difficult to find a pre-made true dual 3" exhaust for the C4. I've also tried flowmasters with a single 3"; also highly recommended. Stay away from Borla... wicked annoying resonance in my car at about 1200- 1800 RPM. KNow anyone who wants to buy my borla system?? :)
It's a great system. I have 2.59 gears, headers, x pipe, and hi flow cats. The resonance isn't bothersome. I can still hear:D. I love the way it sounds. It sounds like an expensive car, not like an old truck or muscle car.
