Piecing together a 96 LT4 VIN Question
I have a used LT4 engine/trans with the following partial VIN stamped
on the top rear drivers side part of the block. It reads:
1T5101377
I went to the idavette page and tried creating the following complete
VINS of which none validated on Carfax. ( I have someone wanting to buy the motor, but they want some mileage verification from the car it came from.)
I tried the following VINS of which none worked. I guess I am doing something wrong.
1G1YY3251T5101377 -- convert LT4
1G1YY2251T5101377 -- hardtop LT4
1G1YY32P1T5101377 -- etc..
1G1YY22P1T5101377
1G1YY32P7T5101377
1G1YY22P7T5101377
1G1YY3257T5101377
1G1YY2257T5101377
The block definitely reads 1T5101377 but I was trying
to replace the first "1" with a 7 to see if it worked. I'd
really appreciate it if someone can come up with the
VIN, I'm not sure if it was a coupe or convert, but I'd
guess a Coupe.
Thanks for your time,
Sinclair

The 6th digit is "3" for convertible and "2" for coupe
8th digit is "P" for LT1 and "5" for LT4
9th is a security digit and varies
It appears that you have tried every combination and come up with zilch.
1G1YY2252T5101377 - which is a 96 LT4 Coupe.
The "2" before the T does not match the "1T5101377" stamped on the block.
I decided to try every digit/character as the check digit and luckily on the
second try the "2" worked. My problem was thinking the digit on the block
before the T was the check digit which it wasn't in this case.
Anyhow I purchased the Car Fax report and it matched what I was told about
the car the engine came out of and location/mileage etc..
Thanks for everyones help...I was going to give up until I got the first response verifying what VIN parts change/don't change etc..
Thanks again!
Sinclair
Anyways, glad you figured it out.
