The optispark IS the cap and rotor, It connects to the cam shaft and uses that to time the car properly to ignite the spark for the plugs. Don't forget to replace the wires at the same time. This is a job you DO NOT want to revisit soon. You can try the new design by dynatech engineering or make sure you go to Jeff kopp to get a GM version, and consider updating to at VENTED design to ensure longer life.

The reason Iam asking is I called Auto Zone for a price and it was 150 for the optispark and like 210 for the cap and rotor kit.I just wanted to make sure when I spend my 330 from GM it will also have a cap and rotor.

NOOOOOO......never buy and optispark from autozone, if you've read anything on this forum almost all results with this component should be FACTORY GM only or the new dynatech engineering upgrade. The few bucks your gonna save may end up costing you even more money down the road not to mention the pain in the a_s_s it is to install it. If they told you that you need a cap and rotor even with an opti then they are misinformed, on top of that, imagine the quality of the product. Do yourself a favor and buy from Jeff Kopp who is a GM DEALER and I think the opti is around the same price. Tell him your a forum member, his number is 1-800-728-8267. Good luck, trust me it will be worth your time to do it this way.......others will say the same

Autozone not only has low quality parts, but their counterpeople seem to be generally inexperienced. I stick to NAPA or GM.

I think you said a 95 Vette. If so, you are already vented. I totally agree with not buying an Auto Zone or any other auto parts store Opti-spark. I did the GM dealer route. Again, you don't want to do this everytime you change plugs. When you get it, you might even put a little high temp RTV around the cap/base seal especially around the connector plug. What's wrong with your current opti-spark? How many miles on it? Vented opti's usually last allot longer.

I only called Auto Zone for a price.I was just curious how much they got for it.I only put GM parts in my Vette.I would never put an Auto Zone one in.Please don't throw me off the forum for it........

Whether you get the opti from GM or NAPA, be sure to split it open and give it a nice seal of hi-temp RTV. The 95 has the better seals, but they still get brittle, shrink and crack over time.

The '92-94 are more expensive than the later '95-96 versions. For one of the best deals you can get, give Jeff Kopp a call 800-728-8267 (ask for him and let him know you are a Forum member). Last time I got one it was around $260 for the '95-96 model as far as my memory lets me remember.
