Despite that you told me not to go with the B&M shift kit but install the TransGo instead, I did install the B&M poopie kit in my TH700R4.
I followed the instructions included with the kit. I had to use some grease on the checkballs to get them to stay in place while I put everything together again. It was written in the instructions that you could use some grease to make the checkballs stay in place.
I also adjusted the T.V cable according to the istructions.
Now, when I started her up to take her on a test drive I couldn't get the reverse to work. I couldn't get out of the garage!!! :mad
My teori was that the grease that I used on the checkballs made them stick and prevented the oil to go the right direction. But I don't know anything about transmissions...
I thought that if I just got the transmission oil warm it would make the grease go away and the problems aswell. I checked the oil level after she was warm and it was okay. Nothing happened, still no reverse!
I put the stick in reverse and I revved her up to about 3000-3500rpm, then she started to move, slowely. Just enough to get out of the garage. I took her for a long drive. Shifted through all gears. But I couldn't get the reverse to work.
I also discovered that the shifts from 1-2 was at about 4000rpm. Before I installed the kit it would change gears at about 5500-6000rpm. The 1-2 shift is much firmer though.
What can be wrong? T.v cable? Checkballs? Anything that might have got lost during the assemble? Don't tell me that I should have istalled Transgo instead :smash:
Re: Shift kit installed, now NO Reverse!! (Cratzy)
Keep trying -gently- . Quite often a piece of lint, hair, or an air bubble will interfere with normal valve and check ball function. Over a period of time, usually short, these conditions rectify themselves..
Re: Shift kit installed, now NO Reverse!! (devilfish)
OK, it is more racing without the reverse, look at F1 :D
But it is very convenient to have a reverse gear...
No updates yet. I haven’t been out to the garage. I have to gather some strength first.
Someone told me that it might be the pressure regulator valve. If it is installed wrong it will result in malfunctions of the reverse gear. Comments on that?
Re: Shift kit installed, now NO Reverse!! (Cratzy)
I had the same problem, and worse. First time I didn't seat the pressure regulaator snap-ring correctly. When I started it, it blew the regulator into the bottom of the pan. Disassembled. reassemble. Now no reverse. I had forgotten to torque the bolts on the block-off plate. Forward was OK, but it released the pressure in reverse. Disassemble, reassemble.
Re: Shift kit installed, now NO Reverse!! (Vic'89)
I had a no reverse situation after installing a B&M kit once.......the check ball was in the wrong location.......do not use grease to hold them, ONLY petroleum jelly......the 4500 rpm shift point (lower shift points) is typical for a "drill-the-separator-plate" shift kit........

I suspect the grease aswell. I guess I will have to tear it apart again and clean all the grease away.
What about the 4500 rpm shift point, is there something I can do to get it back to normal, 5500-6000 rpm shift point? The car now feels slower then before I installed the shift kit.
