I just got my cable and hooked up my laptop to the car the first time this last weekend. Now, what am i looking for as far as knock count, blms, o2 reading, spark advance, etc. Can someone post normal ranges? I just want to make sure it's running right, i feel like my low end torque is down, but my butt-meter might be off a bit (getting used to the car)
Also, i recorded ~1800 knocks, but it only went up at WOT, this was several full throttle runs to about 65mph over about 30 minutes...does that sound normal?
i know these are easy questions but i am new to this!!!
Re: what are normal ranges for parameters? (konroh)
blm's=128=+/-4, o2 sens. volt.=swings rapidly back and forth above and below 450mv, spark advance=depends on what is programmed, knock retard in degrees=0 to 4+ depending on fuel quality etc etc.
The knock counts are a total of knock counts seen (cumalative) and not just degrees of spark pulled out at a time.
1800 counts in a few runs is way more than "average". Octane of fuel? Also how many deg retard are you seeing? And of course check for anything that could be loose and rattling giving you false knock.
I've found an excellent book to learn how all the sensors interact and what you're looking at on a scan tool is "How to Tune and Modify Chevrolet Fuel Injection" by Ben Watson.
Re: what are normal ranges for parameters? (drive it)
Thanks for the reply...all the paramaters you mention are close to what i had...as for the knocks, the fuel i was using was in there since last fall. I filled up with fresh premium the other day (92 or 93 octane), so as soon as the roads dry out around here i will go for another drive to get a new count. What is a normal amount of knock to see at WOT?
