Default Weird ALDL problem....

This is strange, my ALDL only seems to transmit info to my scanner every now and again.. has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

Also the ECM gets pretty hot, is this normal?

Thje ecm will get hot=normal. What scan tool? Also I've found that aldl plugs that have had the paperclip inserted more than a few times to pull codes will have the wire clips in them kinda' stretched out and will give fail to establish comm. Could try to squeeze the clips back together....

I have two OTC Monitor 2000's... and it's been like that since i got the car. Should i use a pin or something and try to get the ALDL pins crunched together again?

Are you putting a 10k ohm resistor between pins A+B on the connector? This puts the ecm in the right mode to send data.

If your scanner is adaptable to different cars, assure that it's set up for your year and car. Sometimes I have my AutoXray setup for the '86 IROC and it doesn't want to talk to the '88 Vette till I set it up correctly.

A scan tool is useful in pulling trouble codes on an OBD-I system and it provides data on all sensors that the ECM can see. It is useful for tuning as well as diagnostic work. It just plugs into the ALDL connector under the left hush pannel.

That sounds like it might be what's happening.. the only settings the Monitor has is baud rate and stop bits.. does anyone know what the baud rate is? I know this scanner always worked fine on my 88 iroc and 89 gta..
