my 86 has been starting very hard it takes quite a few cranks to get her going and when it catches it is very rough for a few seconds...
today i replaced the spark plugs, distributer cap and rotor. new k&n air filter...
i also dumped a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner in when i filled up with gas.
:smash:
i noticed no difference in the way it has been starting, it still starts like a son of gun. (not good...)
The first thing that I would check is the fuel pressure. Buy a guage for about $25 and hook it to the fuel rail on the right rear side. Turn the switch on without cranking and you should see around 40 lbs of presure holding steady. Turn the switch off and the pressure should drop very very slowly. Crank the motor and the pressure should be at about 38 lbs. Rev the motor and it should go to around 41-43 lbs. Also with the vacuum line to the regulator disconnected (plug at pleum to prevent vacuum leak), it should read 41-43 lbs (disconnected vac line should be same reading as wide open throttle reading). Also, change the fuel filter if it hasn't been changed in a while.
