400 SBC Question
Are Chevy and Pontiacs the same? I can get a Pontiac GTO 400 engine for almost free, can I put this on my Vette w\auto? I think the bell housing areas are different right? Its 67 or somewhere in that area.

Hi Gus: If the GTO engine is out of a 67, the trans will definitely NOT bolt up. This engine is from the era in which Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile shared a common bellhousing pattern, but not Chevrolet. BTW, are you and Mom both doing OK?

Dude, a 1967 Pontiac 400 is not even close to the same as a Chevy small-block. I've personally rebuilt both engines. There's no question. Plus, the Pontiwacker weighs WAY more. Just forget it.

Yeah, thats what I thought, I just wanted to be sure. I scrapped the idea and spent my money on something else..........
