Sounds like you know what your doing, follow the guys advice for good measure but beat him for sure with skill....then post a VIDEO!!!!!!
:hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
Do the mods and the practice. Then ask him to make sure your taillights are working! :lolg:
My friend called me from Greece and told me that someone bought a viper and that the viper owner can't wait to see me so he can blow my doors off.My vette has been in Greece for 7 years and i do upgrades every year.I have raced this guy in the past.First time he had a Escort cosworth wich is 280HP 4 wheel drive and the second time was in a M3 beat him bad both times.I never had the vette at the track but i am pretty sure it runs low 13's.I do not know the year of the viper but i was told it has the soft top and the mufflers that exit at the rear of the car. What does a viper run on street tires?Would a 150 shot of NOS be enough to take the Viper? There will be money placed on this race plus there will be a couple of hundred people watching the race.I CAN'T LOOSE.We usually race for 1 kilometer but if i can't juice for that long i will make it less. Please help me.I will be going to Greece in July and i have to start shopping.Tell me what i need. Thanks for any info
Why don't you try putting some sassiki<(spelling?) ... sauce with the nitrous to lube things up...
buy a TNT wet kit put the 150 jets in and love it, vettes can handle up to a 175 shot safely but 150 is still within its limits. if you dont have one already, get an MSD 6AL, an RPM activated windows switch for the nitrous and woop his butt. I use a TNT kit on my 93 and since I live close to the TNT company I have the opportunity to talk to them and learn a lot about nitrous and how it affects this and does that but Jamie and TNT knows everything you need to know about nitrous. give them a call 903-839-5498 and talk to them.
PS its not NOS its nitrous, NOS is a name brand and what ricers use to sound cool :)
Again, your best chance to beat the Viper is to hope that he will beat himself, it happens often.
My point exactly. There is nothing "wrong" with the Viper to make it bad on a road course other than it being hard to drive. It's kinda like a Porche, it'll handle like crazy if you don't overstep the limit. The second you do, around you go. Sure it's a faster car in the hands of an EXPERIENCED driver, but honestly how many of those do you come across? Seems like he just got the car I really doubt he can drive it to it's limit.
The viper is a fine car but you have to admit that it takes a lot of skill to drive one well. You also have to admit that most people do not have that skill.
I personally think that your biggest restriction (appart from your own skill level and tyhe size of your pocket-book) will be the TPI setup. Even with a TPIS Bigmouth and big tube-runners, it's fairly restrictive - expecially at the top end. The ZZ4 crate engine is a good motor and a solid base, so I'm glad to see you're starting with a good foundation. I would consider swapping out the TPI for either a TPIS Mini-ram or the Lingenfelter Super-Ram. These are MUCH better setups than the TPI for serious horsepower, and will really wake up that crate engine. But whichever you go with, MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT CAM!!! Talk to the guys at TPIS or Lingenfelter - they will help you make the right choice. The amount of work to install an new intake/cam is not much more than installing a NOS system and the power is always there - it's not something you have to turn on or off with a switch.
Also consider a rear-end swap. Since you've got a 6-speed, you're fine to go with either a 3.73:1 or 4.10:1. I know a guy that's got a mildly worked ZR-1 with a set of 4.10s in his car, and he said that of all the stuff he had done to the car (and all the work was done by the ZR-1 Doctor, BTW) the rear end made the BIGGEST difference. And this is something I've heard from alot of other people, so definitely consider it! And my personal choice would be the 4.10s.
After all this is done, THEN you can consider the 150 shot of nitrous. I don't know who makes 'the best' kit, but start with NOS (Nitrous Oxide Systems) since they are probably the oldest in the business, and go from there.
I should mention, if you do all this, you may have to consider an injector change, so keep that in mind.
In my opinion a 150 shot is fine if used right. I had an 88 Iroc(305) w/ a 200hp shot on it and run it at Etowne for 2 years. And that was a 12.3-4 car until l got stupid. Just make sure you get a MSD box rev limiter and rpm switches to turn it on and off. Also make sure you have a fuel pump that will suport your engine+ nitrous. You may need to run a seperate line from youe tank.I used an NOS fogger plate that mounted behind the throttle body.I think the part # was 0151 or something like that. Also get a bottle heater, that help me maintain the pessure needed to keep everything running smooth.
The amount of work to install an new intake/cam is not much more than installing a NOS system and the power is always there - it's not something you have to turn on or off with a switch.
If you put an average nitrous system together, I think that it is ALOT more work and money to put in a different cam and intake system. If you are going to do a cam/intake, you might as well port the heads. Especially if this guy wants to beat a Viper on the engine alone. Then you need a custom chip. Depending on gears, he may need them as well to optimize the new cam/intake combo.. I agree that it would always be underfoot, but just doing a cam and intake isn't going to get it done on the street against a Viper!
Go to http://www.nitrouswarehouse.com and click on the first and the third picture on the top. Get a wet kit for your car with all the options and a F.R.E.D. It's a programmable little computer that lets you bring up the nitrous instead of a big hit. This will help GREATLY off the line. You'll just need to practice with it and get it programmed right for the launch. I hope you know of a place to get your bottle filled. And always have a full bottle before the race, it helps.
Thanks for all the info.I did some research and a 150 shot wet kit with the progressive controler is what i might be interested in.I have a spare Walbro fuel pump that i will install just to be safe.Thinking about some long tubes headers also.I would like to keep the stock gear ratio because even though there is a speed limit there no one knows about it.And the vette loves to cruise at 120 ,at a little over 2000rpm
Okay, so I've seen that the 150 shot would be good, but if are talking about dropping a different engine in, then you probably would have the jack to drop a supercharger on with lower compression heads. If you did around 8.5 on the compression, you would easily push 60+70% more hp (right around 12 psi). So, if you have a stock motor pushing 300 hp, that setup would give you around 510 hp. Now, if you had 350 hp, then you're looking at around 595 hp. Am I way off with this? My uncle who builds street rods is running 600 hp on a 350 motor because of low compression and a solid supercharger/intercooler setup. With that amount of hp, as long as you got traction, you would pull ahead pretty easily.
Sneak under his car and wrap a chain aroung the rear end, then affix the other end to a telephone pole. It works. (I 'seen' it in a movie once.........hehehe)
The viper is not a 2003.From what i was told it is a RT the first year they made them without the sidepipes. As for a video, there will be plenty of digital camcorders at the race.

You should beat him. Isure that you have you window swith set properly (Nitrous on/off intervals set it to 5500rpms) This should keep you far enough out to win. I am not really too sure about a 1 mile+ run. I would push for a 1/4 mile. I have juice but I refuse to run it for a mile(150 shot).
Sound's like he's got a 97 Viper. That's going to have 450 HP. Lots of torque too. 488 cube aluminum V10. 335/35/17 rear tires. Most guys change the Viper rear to a 3.55 from the stock 3.07, that's what I did. With the stock rear I had to be going 80mph to get into 6th gear. I've got Kumho ecsta 700 tires, very sticky. I think your only hope is to have him beat himself with wheelspin. I don't think you will be able to get a hole shot on him unless he screws up. He's got more power and traction than you.
It's not much of a big deal to put nitrous on a Viper. If you go changing engines and building up your power, all he has to do is put in a nitrous kit. Vipers have forged pistons and the engine is fairly bulletproof.
You do not want to run against a nitrous Viper.
