I had my tranny rebuilt a couple of months ago and after the 6th time returning it it seemed like they finally got it right. well...the other day it started making a ratcheting noise and shifting funny(from a stop - shift from Drive to Rev and it taks about 4 seconds to engage). I checked the fluid and the level is right and it is still pink. any ideas? Will a messed up torque converter cause these symptoms?
The racheting noise could be the parking pawl. The return spring might be weak, damaged, or misassembled.
I'm no tranny expert, but the pressure could be low and it takes that long to build up enough to get moving. Does it do it only in reverse or will it do the same when you go to drive?
I would suggest taking it to a different shop and getting a second opinion.
Update - The Torque converter paritally grenaded. The filter stopped all of the parts. The Tranny guy dissassembled the trans and checked all the parts to be sure.
