Default Mysterious water appearance?

OK, so I bought my vette a week ago, and the passenger floorboard was soaked. I just figured the dealer cleaned the carpet and didn't dry it too well. So I dried it out with a Chamois and was done with it. Well the next time it rains (Yesterday) I get in the car, and it is wet again. So it's leaking in from somewhere. ANyone have any ideas? Is this a common problem, or am I the only one?

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new Vette.

It sounds like a weather strip problem. Let it dry out and run some water over the top and windshield; notice when it starts to get wet.

Maybe you can see the water path on the weather stripping around the door. If not it may be a leak at the windshield weather stripping.

Well, thats what I figured too, but it is all on the floorboard, and it seems to be coming from under the seat.

 Mostly they leak at the windshield pillar!

The weather stripping directs the water right down into the car at the front of the door. Don't know wht GM could never figure that out.

According to Gordon Killebrew, I think they finally got it right in '96, after they used up all the other weatherstripping they bought.

I just don't drive my vert in the rain. If I get caught in the rain, I sit back, watch it leak and give thanks for fiberglass floor pans :D

Then I dry it out when I get home :smash:

Are the outer window seals in good shape? It sounds to me like water is getting in the door, and draining out the drainhole in the bottom, and making it to the carpet.

Also, whenever I wash the car, and open the door afterwards, water always gushes down the front edge of the door just behind the door panel.

You need to check the 3 front drain holes under the windshield. If the hole(s) are clogged, water will back up and flood the pass floor board...did it to mine last winter...weatherstripping was fine.

It won't take much to clog them up. To find them you will need to remove the plastic sreens at the base of the windsheild. 1 drain hole on each outer corner and one almost in the middle. Once you find them run a fine lenth of stiff wire through them to chase them out.

When you are finnished run some water in the channel to make sure they are cleaned out...if one is glogged the water will back up.

Hope this helps
