WHEN IS A CLUTCH GOING BAD????
I took my car in to be inspected for trade in and the guy who drove it said that my clutch is going to need to be replaced. i'm just wondering if the guy is pulling my leg so he can work $700 dollars off my trade in value, then simply run my car through the auction with out ever replacing the clutch. He says that my clutch grabs in an awful high position, also that when i shift into second, the synchros show signs of a problem, because it doesn't always slip into second easily. Are these good indications?? also, the car kind of studders a bit when put into reverse. otherwise, i've never known the clutch to be any different, it's the way it was when i bought it. Somebody give me some help on this. thanks.

i believe the clutch in most (all) 94 corvettes will auto adjust to that "high" position. i think that he is trying to run down your trade in value.

I had a new clutch and flywheel put into mine last fall. It grabed higher than I liked (or expected), but I asked around and discovered that this is normal for 6-spd C4s.

A clutch is bad when you are in 5th or 6th gear and you put you foot to the floor the engine rpms rocket to 4000 RPM or greater while no change in the car acceration is felt (maybe a few MPH but not neck wrenching). That is when the cluth is "slipping" and time for a new clutch or you have oil on the clutch face or flywheel.......good luck
