Default [89]Power steering cooler. Do I need it?

My car has this option. Does the fluid get so hot that it needs cooling or is that under roadrace conditions? Can I get by without it? Anybody do away with theirs?

*note it makes anti sway bar removal a pita. I take bar off right before I go to the drags, but it goes right back on after

No it is not needed for a street driven/drag car.

My 90 does not have one.

It is more so for AutoX/ roadracing.

With that said, are you up for selling it if you pull it?

Never seen what this looks like, wanna take a pic for me? :)

Why not just disconnect the sway bar instead of removing it fully? Its not THAT heavy of a part.

The cooler shouldnt be needed. My 87 has no cooler and the auto-x and road racing I have done I've never had a PS problem.

You don't need it for the way your car is being used. As far as road racing, I have seen several C4's (including mine) blow an O-ring at the power steering rack inlet after getting too hot on the track. The temperatures get quite a bit hotter here, and we are using the 11's on the front with race tires. The chief driving instructor for the club I race with used to race C4's extensively (now he races an '02 Z06) and he was not at all surprised when he saw mine spray all over my clean and shiny engine compartment. What he says he did was to install a cooler and use a good synthetic power steering fluid like Red Line. That's what I did and have not had a problem since. If you are concerned about removing the cooler you could probably run the synthetic fluid and be just fine.

hey man, I need every ounce I can get! I'll guestimate my solid 30mm weighs 10lbs.

How is it being used? :D That obvious huh?
That's the beauty of these cars. I can drag it Friday, road course it Sat, and auto-X Sunday. And I have been getting into auto-x(one coming this Sunday) and I hope to learn how to drive on road course later this year. And that's where the deletion question came from. I guess I can try to get by without it(?) for awhile. I have synthetic oil already in there and CA weather isn't that bad. Thanx guys.
