I priced Michlin Pilots at TireRack.com and Costco. Even with salestax, Costco is cheaper. I need two 315 x 35 x17 Pilots, two 275 x 40 x 17 Pilots, and two BFG drag radials 275 x 40 x 17.
... thank goodness I have 275s all the way around!!!
I used to have 275s all around, now I'll have 315s in the rear for daily driving, and with my extra set of 9.5" rims, I'm having a set of 275 BFG drag radials mounted just for the strip :)
Why do you think Costcos any worse than the boob at Firestone (TireRack's recommended installer)? They botched up mounting a set of AquaTreads on my newly painted winter wheels (for my Impala). They didn't realize that Aquatreads are directional, had to remount two of them, scatched the **** out of the paint.
I was thinking with good quality tires it wouldn't be so tough to balance, and if Costco screws up my rims, they'll pay for it. Also Costco includes a road hazard warrenty (big deal when a tire cost $340/per).
Costco lost my tire biz last year. When I bought my 84 I had one good T/A radial on it. Costco had a good price, but had to order 3 tires for me .. that took 3 weeks. When the tires came in I went down to have them installed and my one good tire rotated (postitional wheels) and balanced. They would not rotate or balance my old tire because it was "too old". They wanted me to order another tire and wait 3 more weeks :mad Got my money back and went and bought Kumhos cheaper somewhere else.
Also I hear that they will only install stock sizes on your car. Don't be surprised if they won't install your 315s
I got the mich. pilots from costco as well. No problems here. I believe it was $7.00 to mount, balance, free rotation, (which dosnt apply to my vette) road hazard warranty, and 90 cents to dispose of the old tires. In addition, I have bought at least 5 complete sets of tires for other vehicles from them and never had any problems with them. On one of my trucks I ran over a piece of metal in the road and blew out the tire. Took it to them without the receipt and he replaced it for free under the road hazard warranty.
Tires are tires. I would buy tires for my cars/trucks from them, but they don't sell the tires I want for the Vette. I do use them to mount tires on my Vette rims, even if I didn't buy the tires from them. They have good equipment and do a good job, at least the Costco in Sterling does.

This is exactly why I bought my BFGs at BJ's.
Townfair tire had them for a few bucks more but no road hazzard warranty. $140 installed ! !
I've had good luck as well with Costco mounting/balancing. I've never actually bought tires from them, but they've mounted and flipped a couple of sets of autocross and street tires for me.
The shop is clean, the people working there seem as professional as any other tire store, and they don't mind if I watch the process. I've always brought in loose wheels, but on every single other car I've seen in there they always use an honest to goodness torque wrench on the lugs.
They'll even use the tape-on weights if you ask. They (at least the store in Frederick, MD) doesn't have the whiz-bang ultra cool Hunter road-force blancer, but it's still modern, clean, apparently well maintained equipment. If they give you the best price, go for it.
I've bought from them for my other cars without any problems and the balancing has been fine (unlike a local Discount Tire where I've seen them cover about 1/4 of the rim with multiple weights).
I used them and was very happy. They were very careful but still broke one tire pressure sensor and were great about paying for it to get fixed. I just walked in with a reciept one day and walked out with a check for the repair.
