Default Effects of no knock sensor?

My knock sensor is bashed and i can't get the remains of the old one out to put the new one in yet. I'm trying to track down a steady miss, and a lack of power.

I almost never get a code 43, but is this affecting my car in any way?

Once after each startup the ECM advances timing at WOT when the coolant temp is above 195deg F till a knock is detected.

If no knock is detected the code 43 is set.

Though I don't know the specifics I suspect the ECM takes precautions to avoid damage due to knock.

This controls predetonation in the cylinder chambers by retarding the timing curve. You must get the old on out somehow and replace it. It is critical for maximum engine performance unless you throw your ECM in the garbage can...... :jester

Would that explain a very noticeable power loss even though theres no code 43?
