Default When replacing water pump????

I have the old one off and I'm going to put the new one on. I'm not sure how I need to connect the spline to the hub. On the replacement there are 2 O rings. Where do these go? I'm assuming towards the front of the waterpump on the shaft.

What should I put on the shaft splines, grease? pre-lube? what?

Also, I've heard a recommendation from a VEEERY reliable source not to use RTV on the water pump gaskets as his preference. However, I've always done it on both sides of the gasket. Anyone else NOT putting RTV on the gaskets?

It would be assumed that you are replacing the water pump because it was leaking coolant.
If so, there is a likely chance that the coolant has entered the opti-spark and its' demise may happen soon. You might want to consider replacing the opti-spark now.

There are numerous threads on water pumps and opti-sparks in the C4 Tech Tips forum. If you haven't been there, click on "Tools" in the menu bar and scroll to C4 Tech Tips. Also, using the "Search" feature in the left column, entering opti-spark or water pump, and searching "archives" will provide you with a wealth of information.

On the wate pump and thermostat gaskets and bolts I use Permatex #2 but I suppose RTV works too.

RTV may not be necessary, but it gives me a warm-fuzzy feeling so I do it.

Be sure to put a thread sealer on the pump bolts, they go through the block into the water jacket.

Can help on pump drive, I installed an electric pump.

:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: My new opti with vent kit just arrived via UPS yesterday. My old with feel the shock and awe of my 5 pound sledge!

This thing is toast!!! It's amazing to me that I didn't leak more than a few drops. Check out those ball bearings! Those little guys are supposed to be hidden!!!! You should hear the grinding noise this thing makes when you spin the drive!
