Hey Guys... i was wondering, Is there any reason that if I pull the air pump and just use a shorter belt that it wouldn't work? The belt wll still be going over the other accessories with the belt facing the correct way....
I have access to a all the different size belts at the shop, They are all just hangin on the wall..... Just grab a belt like 5 sizes smaller and go from there and get one that fits good.... Save $160 bucks and it will be really clean engine compartment
EDIT: I just realized that the Braket for the altenator is connected to the same bracket as the air pump on my car and would still hav to be there......

I understand that to only work on an '84. The accessory set up is different on the TPI cars. Many on here should be able to tell you why (if) that won't work for you. Actually...You've got the belts, the shop, you tell US. Good luck, and...

My dad eliminated the AIR pump on his '84 without the kit. He fabricated a bracket that held an idler pulley in place where the pump was so that the correct size belt could be re used.
If using a shorter belt is not possible, give this a try. The price of a new pulley ($20) and just a couple hours in the garage beats 160 bucks any day.

Its not possible to route the belt without some sort of pulley up there. The power steering pump pulley gets in the way of the path between the waterpump and alternator pullies. You can't really reroute the belt either. :nonod: .. at least not on the 85 vette.
I think you're best bet for a cheap mod would be to move the alternator to where the smog pump is. Or better yet, put a blower there.
