Update on catalytic converter surgery
After gutting the cat yesterday I had a shop weld in a straight piece of 3" pipe. Got everything bolted back together and noticed something. With the rest of the exhaust hooked back up I'm back down to 12-13 inches of vacuum. The car desparately wants a new PROM after the cam and head work. Once everything is tuned, can I expect the vacuum to come up? I've checked everything else and can't figure out why the vacuum is so low. I haven't checked the pre-cats yet. I don't see a good way to get into them.
Also, my temp is still running 205-215 in town in 70 degree weather. Can tuning also effect temperature? I removed the radiator and cleaned a crap load of debris out 3 weeks ago.
Performance wise the car screams. Need to dig out the G-Tech and see where I'm at. Love the exhaust note too without the cat. I should have done this a loooong time ago!
Re: Update on catalytic converter surgery (MrNuke)
Hmm, odd- I lost my cats 5 years ago, and although my cams and head are stock, I had no change in drivability issues; perhaps the reduction of backpressure is causing the overlap of the new cam to be an issue- what are the duration specs of your new cam? I also noticed a reduction in coolant temp, plus cabin temp- your temps around town seem pretty good, if that is stop and go;
As for those of you who feel that the entire world isn't already aware of laws regarding cat removal- c'mon, kids, that's about as helpful as reminding us that we shouldn't speed, either...... tho I suppose it's an exuse to use these cute little icons- ;) :D :rolleyes: :lolg: :yawn: :lol: :jester :p:
