Default Water pump...

Well, that elusive coolant smell has finally be tracked down. Had it up on the rack for an oil change and I could see a little bit of antifreeze on the cross member.... Looks like the water pump is leaking a little bit...

$234.00 sound about right for an OEM pump on a 95?

I guess this would be a good time to change out the thermostat to a lower temp. What's the best way to go?

Once I get the T-Stat changed, I can get a dealer to change the fan settings, right?

I just ordered a water pump from Jeff Kopp. Went for $155. Comes with a thermostat so you could just swap it out. Not sure about the fan settings. :seeya

Is that parts and labor? I bought one from NAPA and did it myself for $45.00 2 years ago on my L98.

On the LT1, they improved it so much the pump cost $200 and the distributor costs $300!

If your pump has been leaking, you might want to go to the next step and remove the opti, split it open and see if it's clean. The opti on the 95 has much better seals and the vent lines to keep it dry, so I guess it's a toss-up whether to do it. It only adds another 1 - 1 1/2 to the job. If it were mine, I would do it, just for peace of mind.

Not a bad idea.

I checked around and the average price seems to be about $200 for the pump.

Is there a higher-performace pump available? I noticed that there are for the earlier C4's...

What temp t-stat is best? The stock is a 195, I think, so drop to what? 180? 160?

To answer the question...

"Is there a higher-performace pump available? I noticed that there are for the earlier C4's..."

I've had great results from the Edelbrock hi-perf water pump.
Flows about 25% more fluid. Look at Jeg's or some other catalog.
Good luck!
Matt

You can install an electric water pump. It dropped my temps 8-10 degrees in regular driving, at 115MPH with ambient at ~80 degrees in the desert the temps never went above 218.

They don't make one for the LT1. The newest Vette they make one for is the 91.

Arisa suggested an Electric. Anyone have any experience with ELectric Water pumps?

Hey John, I see you posted while I was posting. What brand electric did you get and where?

I have a Meziere, I can't say enough about the company or the quality of their product. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I bought the HD pump from SpeedDemon (CF supporting vendor), but I've heard that internetracerssupply's price is $20-30 cheaper. It goes for about $200-$230. You'll have another $15-$20 of electrical to add to it.

I've run the Meziere HD for over a year ~15,000 miles and it works great.

I use a heavy duty Meziere. Bought it from Thunder Racing for $214. Add to that another $25 for a high quality relay.
