I just replaced the mufflers on my 85 with some dynomax mufflers from Corvette Central with the LT1 tips. They sound great but I can't get the tip on the right side to go back as far as it is suppose to. The left side goes flush with the rear bumper but the right tip sticks out about 3 inches. How could I possible push it back any?
Are you able to loosen and push the muffler hanger back more?Compare the sides. Those hangers are shaped to be able to move back and forth a few inches. Is one hanger back more than the other? Also measure the pipes and be sure theyre all same.Measure the rear y pipe as well.Be sure it isnt longer on one side.Ive seen them off big time due to manuf. errors.Rare but does happen.
Its pushed back as far as the hanger and rear y-pipe will let it go. Vettenoob and I were thinking of getting a pipe expander so I could shove the mufflers tube into the y-pipe further but I thought that it would also change the angle of the tip. Is that true or would that just bring it back further? Basically the tip is at the right angle but just 3 inches out to far. I pushed back on the muffler as far as it would go and this is where it wound up.
Might be time to take it to a muffler shop. I had similar problem aligning tips on my car and I finally gave up and gave to a shop. They were able to heat everything and line the tail pipes up perfectly.
