Default Quick brakelight question

As some of you know, I have a bit of a Frankenstien's Monster Vert, and I am always discovering new things about it.

I was browing the Sale/Wanted forum and saw a link to this 88 Vert:

88 Vert on Ebay

The one in the ad has the 5th brakelight in the rear bumper. Mine does not have it. Was this something added to the Vette in the auction, or am I missing something?

Default Re: Quick brakelight question (DVAST8R_88)

The 88 and later Y67 convertible models were required by law to have the 5th stop lamp. They generally came that way from the factory.

According to the 84-92 GM Dealer Parts & Illustration Guide the replacement bumper fascia for the Y67 was the same as the Y07 model and the dealer was suppossed to cut the hole for the 5th stop lamp and install the new/used lamp in the bumper prior to reassembly.

My guess is that your car has had the bumper fascia replaced at some point and the shop or owner decided not to cut the hole and mount the 5th lamp unit. It might have been laziness on the part of the shop if it was a repair, or the previous owner might have decided to do away with the lamp to make for a cleaner look and installed a factory replacement which came without the mounting hole.

Thanks Mike_88Z51.

I figured it would be something like that. Even though the Carfax came back clean on this thing, I wonder. I have a feeling that the only thing incident free on this car is the VIN# piece.

Anyone know of a way I can check to see if this is really the VIN that goes with the car, or if my Vette has been assembled in someone's backyard? Any hidden numbers on the frame, or body, maybe?
