Need some opinions, its a long story but I have lost any faith I had with the mech. that has my car.
The car is apparently running so rich that it will run for a while until it fouls the plugs out.
We have traced the problem down to all of the injectors are not pulsing, they are staying open all the time. The mech. says that this is caused by one of two things, computer or wiring short. Does this sound right? As I understand it the distributer module can also cause this but it has been changed.
He is changing the computer out today so hopefully that fixes the problem, if not he'll return the computer and look for a wiring short. Any suggestions on where to start looking and opinions on is he wasting his time swapping the computer? Are there any sensors that could cause this condition. Only code it was giving before it went into the shop was EGR which has been there for quite some time.
Oh this is so agravating I need my car back, it'll be 2 weeks tomorrow.
OK to make this a little more simple we have ruled out the computer. It is defintely a wiring problem. The mech. said that he can wiggle the wires that come up to the back of the distributor and simulate the problem. So no problem he uncovers all the wires and has everything exposed and cannot find a bare wire anywhere. And now he can't simulate the problem anymore.
By simulate he has a node on the injector plug which lights up when the plug gets power and the node is staying on all the time I think is what he said on the phone. Any suggestions.
I went by and checked, he's got all the injectors unplugged while he is doing the testing and trying to track it down. We are pretty positive it is a bad ground, or actually a constant ground when it should be a pulsing ground. I guess we'll just have to track it down.
