My 86 has the bose radio, I have read each specker has it's own amp then I was told 4 amps....to get to the point the cassette deck is DOA only the radio plays and I'm thinking about updating to an aftermarket unit that will play mp3s so, I either have to get an adapter to use the bose speakers or get new speakers also,
there are 6 speakers....the drivers door and dash speakers don't play....
does anyone know how many amps there really are and is it better off to just ditch the bose speakers and update the whole system?
Thanks all....
Charlie. :flag
If your 86 has the factory installed Bose system, you have four speakers. One speaker in each front door and two rear speakers.
The dash has no speakers from the factory with the Bose system. Dash speakers came with the base radio.
Each Bose speaker has its own amp. One amp in each of the front doors and two amps in the rear with each speaker.
I am still using the original installed Bose systems in my 85 and 96 and have no recommendations for other systems.
Do a search over in the Audio section. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of posts covering the subject. Personally, I would ditch the whole system. If the amps aren't bad, they will eventually go. In the end it is cheaper to replace the whole deal. I did and am very happy, one of the best mods I have ever done. Also look for posts over there by Tuan Le, he has some great deals on equipment.
