I was watching Two Guys Garage TV show a few months back and they were replacing a thermostat in a car that when it failed it failed open instead of closed like most do. I'll be changing my coolant and I want to replace the thermosat also. My local parts store didn't carry them. Does anybody know the brand or if the big auto store chains carry them.
It has been my experience, that the good (not super duper) name brands, fail in the open position. The Doles, Stants, etc. The super cheap, fail closed. Although it's been a couple of years, I would recommend spending $5.00 or a little more, than less. Over $10.00 is a rip. Good luck and...
The MotoRad ones are the ones that I've used, and they definitely work! Worth every cent you might pay for one, and it's the cheapest insurance anyone could get. I cringe whenever I think about what will happen if my thermostat failed in the closed position; what's the worst that happens if it fails in the open, no heat? Big deal! It's better than having to replace a set of aluminum cylinder heads that cracked because the car overheated due to a failed thermostat!!!
