I need a new right front bearing and my mechanic suggested Timken as the brand that they have had the most success with. However, his supplier cannot provide one for a couple of weeks and it is a little pricey--$350. Does anyone have suggestions on where to get buy these at reasonable price. My car is a 1996 LT1 and, in case it makes a difference, I need the right front. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.
I got my timken wheel bearings from the local autozone.Ive spent between 99.00-139.00 depending on which cars I had to replace them on.350 bucks should get you an a/c delco unit at least.I know the tech's gotta make some money but thats too high for a timken brand name. The bearings for the Vette were 99 bucks from Pep boys btw.I hear theyre closer to 150.00 now.Try and see if you can get CR or Chicago rawhide bearings, which is just as good or better as timkens.Plus, you get a lifetime warranty with either brand if you get it from Pep Boys or autozone.
Good Luck!
:)
Hmm, Kurt Fehling that name looks familiar. How's it going? :D
I bought my front Timkens from autozone.com. The price was about $130 but I noticed it's increased a bit since I bought them. Still, it's probably the best deal for the 91-96 front hubs. Pep Boys doesn't carry the fronts for the late-C4s, NAPA is more expensive, etc.

The last price I got on the Timkems from autozone (online) was $159.00 for the rears and $139.00 for the fronts.
Jason, Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well and that you are tearing up the SCCA crowd.
As for the bearings. I am striking out. Every Pep Boys, Napa, Chevy dealer that I have called has been quoting me MORE than $350. I would appreciate the phone number of any place that someone has bought theirs. If you prefer, you can email me directly at kurtafehling@yahoo.com. Thanks.
PS. Apparently Autozone workers are late risers because as of 9:30am PDT, I have not been able to get an answer from any local store.
Seems everything gets jacked up ($) when Corvette is in the sentence.
Has anybody ever taken the bearing part number and looked for it directly. I used to work on trucks and learned about stores that only carried bearings (yes there are those types of stores) and I always found what I needed at very reasonable prices. Most bearings are actually pretty standardized.
How about posting the bearing part number, I'm too lazy to pull mine off just to see.
It isn't just a bearing assy. It also has the ABS sensor as a sealed assy in it as well. Not that that is some sort of suffisticated piece of electronics these days.
