Help!!! "INFL REST" light!
I've been getting a sort of "whining" noise when I turn on the radio sometimes. It goes up with RPM, sometimes stops if I pound the break pedal a few times, and always stops if I turn off the radio. Car stereo guys say something isn't grounded properly..makes sense. So, last night, after a round of "spirited" driving, I park and then start the car again in 20 minutes. My inflatable restraint light and my seatbelt light stayed never turned off, though. =/ So, I kinda kicked the left-side of the driver's footwell, where the speaker is, and the whining noise, and the INFL light stopped for a second, but then both came back on. No further amount of kicking or bashing the area has changed anything. :) Anyway, I took the car into my friends shop, but they can't scan the airbag modules, and neither can anyone else, except pretty much the dealership. Someone said it could very possibly be the "clock spring", which would necessitate replacing the enitre airbag assembly (something I do not relish doing). I don't really wanna spend $90 to get the dealership to scan it just to find out that I have a loose wire somewhere, so what should I do? Has this happened to anyone before? Any suggestions? TIA..I can't stand warning lights being on!

Don't forget to wait about 10-15 minutes after disconnecting the battery before starting to remove the sensor bolts. I was told that there is some residual voltage that is retained in the sensor and takes some time to bleed off so that upsetting the sensor won't energize the airbag.
Also, there is a tool available from Mid-America that will properly reset the codes and keep the INFL REST light from coming back on again. The reset procedure by hand takes some doing because of the couple of seconds separation between the steps in the reset process. Or you can take it to a dealer to have them reset the code with a Tech-1.
