Determining Spline Count for Torque Converter
I'm about ready to install my new tranny, and I want to put on a nice, new hi-stall torque converter. I am confused about the spline count, though. The shaft coming out of the transmission has two parts: the thicker part has 27 splines, and the thinner part has 30 splines. Does this mean I need a 30 spline or 27 spline torque converter?
The tranny is an 85 700-R4, but it was rebuilt with 91/92 internals. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's the 30 count. That is the input shaft, it should rotate. That is what goes into the TC and splines with the turbine. Plus I was also told C-4 700r4's are 30 spline. Good luck.

Atleast some (all?) 1984's had the 27 spline input. I know, I paid an arm and a leg for a "core" when mine was beefed.
