Has anyone done this? And How Much HP Gain? How Long Did It Take? I Have A Programmer And 4:10 Gear Installed In The Car Now. Will I Need To Send My Computer Out?
You dont necessarily have to have the PCM reprogrammed if you already have the LT4, if you like a little lope, but if you want the ultimate out of it, you should. I know that RichS has done it to his GS.
You might want to head up to Charlotte and see if MORE Performance will do it, or send the PCM to Ed Wright. Its best to have it done on a dyno or in person so they can tweak it. (moreperformanceinc.com)
Id imagine you should get around 50rwhp from it, more with the right exhaust.
Follow the link below to my write-up and install pics (beware, 75 thumbnails). I think it will answer most of your questions. It also has pics/info on the installation of an electric water pump.
Figure on 25-30 hp. I'll be on the dyno tomorrow for a better answer :D
it takes awhile, I'm not the fastest worker but it took me about 3-4 8 hour days it seemed like nothing would work right. Make sure you have exhuast I'm in desperate need of LTs my stock exhust is really restricting the cam, I think it would wake up alot more after I do that. The install will drive you
The Hot cam is a good all around cam. Good manners and good performance. (see Signature) Some have not had to reprogram with the LT4 stock computer but have a ocational miss fire code apear. I sent my computer to Ed Write and it has worked great. As for installation, I can do it in about 8hrs but have been working on cars heavily for about 18 years ( I feel old at 33 :D ) but just take your time and don't rush anything.
I use the Kit. I just don't trust the non-adjustable rockers to set the preload. I rather the adjustable rockers. However quite a few people here have just installed the cam with no problems using the sock rockers. The springs that come in the kit are the same ones you have. I replaced mine even though it had only 30,000 miles and the tested good, I also installed a Extreem duty timing chain set. ( all for piece of mind)
... on the other hand, I have only the cam wit the stock rockers. The springs have 50,000 on them and it doesn't seem to float... It's a great cam, and I have stock programming.....
My Impala SS friends tell me with this cam in an auto trans Vette, a looser TC is needed. Otherwise it's tough to drive on the street and you don't realize the full benefits.

Also, the hot cam has a slightly smaller base circle than LT4 cam. Since the stock rockers are non-adjustable the smaller base circle cannot always be compensated for by the lifter. My vote is to convert to adjustable rockers anytime you change the cam.
