I have a '93 convt. I am experiencing intermittent problems withe the AC system. Somtimes the fan won't blow, then comes back on after closing a door or the hood. Right now, the fan is blowing , but the compressor isn;t kicking in. I don't think it's low on coolant charge, because when it does
come on its ice cold. The fuses all look good, and I have replaced the relay for the blower fan. Any ideas? Thanks

1 is it manual or electronic control
2 do you have any codes set in the a/c controls....blinking lites above the controls.
3 the pressure switch on the large line next to the firewall on the psngrs side is the safety switch for low charge. it will keep the compressor clutch off to prevent compressor damage. try jumpering it out...if the compressor runs then you are low on charge....don't keep it jumpered too long. OR it could be a bad switch OR it could be bad electrical at that connection. post results or e-mail me if you need more help.
It is elect. control. There were lights flashing above the control buttons just after the problem started. They stopped flashing after a minute or two. I am a "newbie" to C4's, whats the light about? Thanks!

The lights indicate a fault was diagnosed by the controller and it set a code in memory. I will e-mail you instructions on how to retrive the codes. the code numbers point you in the direction of troubleshooting the fault.
Citing from the '93 GM manual:
To enter the diagnostic mode, push and hold the fan "up" arrow and fan "down" arrow at the same time for approx. 5 seconds.
The LCD WILL SHOW "00". PUSH "AUTO FAN", and the LCD will show any fault codes stored.
Post the codes displayed, and we will provide the code description............
THANKS to you guys that helped. I ran the diagnostic codes, and got
09. I disconected the batt. to clear the codes and the AC is working again. I'll get it charged Monday. Again, Thanks for the help! This is a great forum!
