Default Issues on Supercharging an LT4

hey everyone

let me start by saying that while this is only my second post, I had 2600 under the name VetteLT4. between changing emails, and major forum work that account seems to be gone. i took some time off from the forum, but its good to be back chatting vettes with everyone again.

had a couple of questions. i have a stock lt4 with nothing but an open air lid k&n and straight pipes from the cats back. everything else on the car is bone stock. What am i looking at to supercharge this engine? I am not looking to change anything like the cam, or heads, or anything like that. i pretty much just want to put on a vortech and maybe do some ecu reprogramming if needed, but nothing else. the car still has just under 40k on the odo and seems to be real healthy. i am not looking for tons of boost, just a mild job would do fine for me. so is this wise to do on a stock engine? if it requires a bunch of other work ill let the idea go, but if a supercharger can go on by itself safely id seriously consider it. how would it affect the longevity of the motor? the car gets driven only once a week or so, so its a very low mileage car. any other issues you guys see? im opinion to all comments, so please let me have it.

<edit> two other things i thought id mention. one, i have access to 100 octane, so id certainly use full tanks of that if it makes a difference. and two, this car wouldnt ever be drag raced or run very hard. infact, it rarely sees north or 5000 rpm, normal shifting takes place inbetween 3-3500

It is possible. In my opinion its not worth it. the LT4 has a higher compression ratio than the LT1 and i believe the LT1 is limited to 6 psi.. i may be wrong.

Heres my opinion: Adding a blower requires breathing. Adding a blower alone and leaving the intake/exhaust stock is putting a lid on the potential. if you want maximum potential out of the blower you will need to lower the compression, forged pistons (that will lower cr) for higher boost, bigger injectors, a fuel pump.... etc kinda like installing nitrous and only using a 25 hp shot because any higher and the motor would break. Mind you adding a blower to a stock motor will produce some good power.

As the last post said, your LT4 cr is to high for Forced Induction. It not worth to spend 4-5K into the supercharger and not able to make the power you want because you are limited to boost let say 4# max.

If you are really want to do right is to tear down your motor, start with lower cr/ and least forge pistons.
