Does anyone know of a source where I can purchase a complete gasket kit? I spoke with Jeff Kopp and he told me GM does it piece meal. Worse case I will just go with Jeff. On a similar what would you recommend for head gaskets? I've heard everyone brag on the Impala gaskets but someone here once mentioned a company called Cometic(?). Anyone have any more info? Apparently Cometic's gaskets are made to fit the bore size in addition to being thinner. Has anyone used these? Any info would be appreciated,
I know that Fel-Pro makes an LT1 head gasket set. It is basically their "Upper Engine" kit. I got mine through checker auto for ~$200. I am a big fan of the fel-pro's. They are a nice thin gasket, and I have never had a problem with them.
Popular Hot Rodding Magazine had an engine competition recently and Cometic were one of the sponsors. You might take a look there for a address, etc. I don't have mine with me.
I'm using the Impala Head Gasket as well from GM .029 compressed thickness and cost was ~$60 from Jeff Kopp. Engine isn't installed yet, so verdict is still out...:)
I just finished doing this job on my '89. Admittedly my car has the L98 engine, but I took the advice of alot of individuals on this forum and went with Felpro 1010 head gaskets. If these will fit the LT1, I would highly recommend them.
As for the upper engine gasket set, I also got mine from Felpro and it's a very complete kit. It has virtually all the gaskets you will need to put the top end of the engine back together. It even contains the fuel injector 'O' rings!
