The consensus seems to be 30# injectors for a 383. But I'm planning on doing forced induction in the future. Would it be benificial for me to get 42# since I'm going to have to have a new chip burned for my setup anyways. Or would this cause drivability issues and possibly "wash out" the motor and I should just upgrade later?
The injector prices are withing about $20 of eachother so it's not a big deal to go with the big ones now. I'd like to save the money and not have to buy them only once, but not at the expense of risking the new engine.
Yes you can get the 42's now, I had a friend that did exactly the same on a stang, he put on the 42's 2 months before the blower and no problem at all. of course you need to tune your setup for the 42's before and after.
I personally think it's best to put together a setup for what you have now, not what you "might have sometime in the near future". I've done that "near future" speculation myself too many times.
Re: Injector Sizing for a 383ci (CorvetteZ51Racer)
OK, near future, is I've got a turbo setup sitting on my garage floor. I had it on my car before the engine went south. I just want to break in the engine for a while before I start putting that back on it. The system still needs some tweeking and I want the engine to be up to operational status before I start pushing is hard.
Assuming you still have stock injectors. I would run those untill you put the Turbo (details please!) on. 22-24# injectors will be sufficent for a 383.
Upgrade to the bigger ones when you do the turbo. Will take alittle bit more time, but they arent hard to do.
I do have to say that I'm a little afraid that my 22/24 LT1 injectors won't be enought for a 383ci. After the money I'm dumping into the engine I definately want to skimp on the injectors to cut corners.
If you'd like to find out about my turbo project try doing a search on my name under the forced induction section.
So my stock 22/24 # injectors should be ok on the 383? I guess it's not that much more in the cubes. Most of the additional power is derived from the stroke change. Seems to make sense, how close am I to maxing the injectors out though???
Go with the larger injectors, personally I would go with a 36 or better.
If you get too big you can run into issues of running rich at idle and such but a 36 should be just fine. 24's absolutely won't cut it. I'm running 24's now and my duty cycle is about 100% at WOT. Now consider that's a 350 with a mild Hot Cam in it. Sure it runs and it makes power but it's not exactly what I would like to call smart. I would prefer a much larger saftey net than that.
I borrowed a set of 36#'s from a friend and simply changed the injector constant in the computer. The car ran just fine with them and the duty cycle was down to about 40-50%
Personally I'm going to go with a 30 for my application. If I were you though I would go with at least a 36.
i agree with Matt Schiller. I have 24# on my vette with a bloer and nitrous? but that was on the old block. I am still going to run them on my 383 with my blower and nitrous it is going to be fun!
Perhaps I would be better off buying an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a pressure gauge. If I up the fuel pressure I should be ok, according to the link that was provided above. But I'm not sure if I'd rather just spend a little more and get bigger injectors.
