I've posted here before about a problem that has been plagueing me for the last several months. I can't seem to get my SLP runners to seal up tight to my edelbrock intake. I tried it the first couple time using just sealant gasket maker, but didn't have any success. This time I ordered the correct gaskets from SLP, cleaned all the gasket material off the parts and torqued everything back together. Still leaking from the same spot, drivers side rear runner to intake seam. I put the gaskets on without using any sealant, I didn't realy want to ruin them since they are mail order and cost $20. Should I attempt to try it again with the gasket and sealant, or is there somthing wrong with my hard parts? I'm at the point of thinking of using spray gasket in a can, and spraying it where it's leaking and hope it seals it up. I know that sounds like a real bad way to solve an intake leak, but I'm at the end of my rope with this one.
Can I take m runners to a machine shop and have them surfaced. I've done searches on this board as well as others, and I can't find anyone who's had as much trouble getting a good seal on this part. Thanks for any advice.
Are you using the 9nth injector, or is it plugged up? I used to run these on my '85, and had trouble getting the 9nth injector to seal right, then I just removed it and everything is A-OK again...
No ninth injector on my setup, it has eight injectors and is MAF. These MAF systems are very sensitive to vacuum leaks, and it won't hold an idle at all without stalling.
Dont hate me for saying this but put the stockers back on.I used the SLP runners and theyre poor fittting and had machining flaws.Plus they need serious porting to flow well. After I put the stockers back on,the stomp off the line came back and it runs 100% better.I think even good large tube runners will fit better and seal better than SLP's.
If youre dead set on keeping these SLP's,you make need to pull everything off and Mock it up on a bench.See if the machining is bad.A mahcine shop can probably tell you if the intake port is off or if its in fact the runner itself.
Since youve tried everything I would have, sounds like something isnt machined properly.
Just keep this in mind, since I dont know your engine mods but in my testing and trials, the stock intake set up is probably the most headache free for a stock engine.Ive tried the SLP's,larger TB's,and all that stuff and in the end,for best driveability and all around performance,it went back to stock.
Until I ever do some serious engine work, intakes, runners and TB's are not gonna be on that list. And if I did engine work,Id get a SR or stealth ram or something along those lines.Lotsa money was spent and wasted by me and I learned my lesson.
