Does blue smoke on start mean that the valve seals are gone?

What are the typical labor costs to have the valve seals replaced?

Better yet anyone have a quick "how to list" of activities to R&R the seals?

The cheesy Haynes manual ($12.99 at your local AutoZone/PepBoys) has a great write-up, esp for L98s.

I was under the impression that if there is blue smoke then there is almost always a problem with your catalytic converter... :auto:

You can get a book but it is fairly easy... Just remove the valve covers.. take off the rockers compress the springs remove the keepers. Pull the springs off and pull the seals out and put new ones in then reverse the steps.. torque the rockers to the proper specs and replace the valve covers with new gaskets and your off and running again smokeless this time.

Don't forget the compressed air in the cyl or you'll drop your valve.
