I just had the Flowmaster cat-back exhaust system installed on my car. Along with that, I replaced the stock cat with a better performing aftermarket converter. Also, I replaced the front stock y-pipe with pre-cats with a new y-pipe without the pre-cats. Car has a nicer sound to it. However, for the first couple of minutes, when you give it some gas, it "pops" when the RPM's are coming down. It stops doing this when the car reaches normal operating temperature. Also, since this exhaust was installed, I now notice a little more reverberance or droning while I'm driving at highway speed (usually by 5th or 6th gear). Anyone want to take some shots at this to what it might be?
I have a similar setup and yes the "drone" is louder at low RPM because more air is being pushed and there is less sound reduction.
You may just be hearing the popping now or maybe it's due to the missing pre-cats. Did you go with the Random Technology 3-stage cat; it's supposed to be a legal replacement (49states) for the pre-cats and stock main cat?
BTW, that "droning" goes to a nice "throb" at around 75mph, in 4th gear with an A4 and 2.59 gears.

The cat I purchased came from Mid-America. I ordered it last year at Carlisle. As far as I can remember, it was being advertised as a free-flowing catalytic converter.
The throb you refer to might not occur in my car. I have 3.33 (or 3.37...i forget at the moment) 6-speed.
I guess there's not much that can be done about these problems. Whenever I can get the car into my mechanic, I'm going to see what his thoughts are on it.
FLowmasters are notorious for a lot of resenonce..... Are the tips extended past the bumper... IF not, bring them out a bit and that could help a little bit.
I dont have the precats in my car and It does the same popping thing when its cold. I think its the car running on its base fuel map (the O2 isnt warmed up yet) and its running rich and letting gas go into the exhaust. Once the O2 starts reading values there is no more rich condition to have gas go into the exhaust

This "pop" is back fire that is heard now becasue of the free exhaust. Now this actually happens because it gets lean either when you rev it and the rpms are comming down or when you downshift and let off the gas. Its perfectly normal, no problems here.
I have the Mid-Am muffler eliminators installed and I have no resonates. I don't know if it's because I had the exhaust tips sticking out a bit or that when I replaced the rear carpets, I left the bottom carpet in (from the cargo cover to the rear of the seats) and carpeted over it for better sound deadening.
