Default Code Fun! Running bad. Codes 24, 34, 44

24- Vehicle Speed Sensor
34- Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor low
44- Lean Exhaust Pressure

Car runs lean (obvious). First few minutes of driving it bogs and backfires. Will replacing the Manifold Pressure Sensor fix the prob(Lean)?

If this pertains to your '77, you might want to post in the C3 forum.

Fix from the front backwards, so i would fix the 34 first, then reset and i'll bet at least one of those other 2 disappears.

Code 34 seems odd to me, because I dont see any charts that relate it with a 94. In Haynes I see 34- MAF Prob years 85-90. Or code 34 1984 and 1991 through 93 models MAP sensor low. So why am I getting code 34? Is there a MAP on 94's?

I believe you have both a MAF and a MAP on your car.

:yesnod:

It sits on top of the intake just behind throttle body on passenger side secured with two torx bolts (MAP sensor upside down view):

Replaced the MAP, no luck there. Still pops, detonats (sp?), with quick revs. Took off whole intake, MAS and all, just open TB, and it seemed to idle smoother for awhile, but it didnt last. Still huntin...

How many codes do you think you are going to get from a car that was manufactured in 1977?

I must not be reseting the ECU correctly. I unhooked battery for a good 5 min. also unplugged ECU, still shows the same codes. Also, does the engine light have to come on in order for the ECU to record the problem?

Off to autozone to buy a fuel pressure gauge... :)

Oldman, Vetracer - , the 77 needs so much work. Im sure code 13 "Rob a bank" would come up.

How are you retrieving the codes? I got a similar batch of codes on my '86 and it was because my Diacom software wasn't running properly on my laptop. I assume you must be working on your dad's '94 - on my '86 you can read the codes by the number of "check engine " flashes to verify that the codes you are retrieving via scanner are really present.

Retreiving codes by de ol jump terminals A+B method.

Fuel Pressure while running reads 32 psi, its not a smooth reading, it bumps around the 32 mark. With ignition on, car off it rises to like 20 or so then falls to 15.

bare with me... I have 10+ things going on in this post.

Take the rubber bladder off the top of the fuel tank( via the filler door). Put the pressure guage on the schrader valve, key on enging off, clamp the delivery line (to the engine) and see if the guage falls or remains the same. If it holds pressure, you have a bad pump, pump damper or bad check valve in the pump. If the pressure falls we'll go from there. It seems your FP pressure is to low and I suspect a pump problem. BTW, when did you last change you fuel filter?
