Make sure you didnt hit the temp sensor below the water pump out of place. I did that, when changing my serpentine belt yesterday (in the same area as you were working).. the sensor plug had come loose, and was hitting the contact, then falling away.. Thus the check engine came off and on. The other thing you could do is the ole diagnostic code jumper trick, and tell us how many times the engine light blinks.
