please try this!
engine off, windows open.
key in on position so you can turn the steering wheel.
turn the steering wheel from side to side...
tell me if you hear a banging or clunking sound in the rack.
if I turn my steering wheel back and forth gently or hard, I head the rack gears banging away. is this normal?
pls try it.... I think I may have to adjust my rack to pinion to remove the slop.

I don't know if it is but it was posted before and a few of us had the same sound including me. It's gone once you start it and it pumps fluid. Everything is tight including the rack on mine.
