Yesterday i decided to fix a vibration coming from the shift lever removing the plastic trim all around the stick. (is an Auto 1990 convertble).
Looking at the left side of the mechanism of the lever I can see a little steel rod coming from a round black piece of plastic. (the black plastic piece is in the front -toward the front of the car- ) the end of the rod has a hole. This rod seems to be a rod that must be attached to a pin in the shifter lever mechanism. I try to put the end of the hole in this pin, but it don't want stay in place. If I use my finger to mantain the end of the rod in place, the stick can't be moved, even if I try to push the button on top of the stick...
(If I turn the key in start position it can be moved).
what is it?? It should be attached to the pin ?? what the function??-

It should be attached to the pin.
You can only take it out of "parking" with key in the lock, and you can only take the key out of the lock while in "parking"
