Borlas are pretty loud. You can allways eliminate the resenator or gut it. If you want loud, I would assume the chambered exhaust systems are pretty loud and can be polished. What about muff eliminators ? I used to drive a Toyota truck around with a 350 and open exhaust that was loud as crap!
I have looked into the 'no-mufflers and chrome Z28 tips' idea. I will probably be going this route. With stock cats and resonator, it couldn't be too loud. My muffler shop can do it for $220 installed. Are there any performance gains or loses with this type of cat-back mod?
Tell me something.. I got 40 series put on mine about 3 days ago. They aren't that loud.. In fact, they are louder from idle - 2000 RPMS then they are when your getting on the car.. Will they break in and get some more tone???3-4500RPM's they are quiet right now.
I have a set of power effects, tpis headers, gutted cat,(383),VERY loud in closed down position,VERY_VERY_VERY_loud in opened position(5 clicks).
I also have Hooker AeroChambers with true duals and yes they are on the loud side, but sound great. I'm always getting comments on how good it sounds. Good sized (3 1/2" I think) chromed tips.
Can anybody comment on the Flowmaster 50's vs. the 40's? Historically, I've been all about removing al the muffling I can on stock motors, but the 383 is just way to friggen LOUD with headers, and offroad pipe, and resonator tips. (See video in sig)
I'm afraid that the usual 'make it louder' mufflers won't adequately tame the noise this mill's a making.
What you are hearing as loud is the resonation of the mufflers inside the cabin. That's a flowmaster trait and you kinda have to deal with it. They sound quieter above 2000 RPM's from inside the car but believe me from outside it doesn't just get quiet.
If you haven't already let somebody drive your car while you stand back and listen to it. I think you'll like the sound even if you can't hear it so much in the cabin.
